Coastal Revegetation Workshop

With Cassandra Ducharme-Martin, biologist, artist and co-designer of Racines de mer.

_____

The International Garden Festival has invited biologist Cassandra Ducharme Martin to design a coastal development and restoration workshop. Participants will be invited to handle and replant vegetation from the Racines de mer installation, integrating it into its natural habitat along the banks of the St. Lawrence River. This collective and symbolic gesture aims to counter coastal erosion while promoting biodiversity and the resilience of riparian environments.

Throughout the activity, Cassandra will share her knowledge of seaside plants, their unique adaptations to salty and windy conditions, and their essential role in soil stabilization. The workshop is intended to be participatory, educational, and meditative.

Cassandra Ducharme Martin works at the intersection of biology, art and environmental activism. Co-designer of Racines de mer, a 2023 International Garden Festival winning project, she has participated in numerous vegetation, wildlife and natural habitat conservation research endeavors. Her approach combines concrete action in the field with a poetic awareness of ecosystems. In September 2025, she will participate in her first artist residency at Collectif Le Récif (Rivière-Trois-Pistoles).
